about us
little read book co. was created at the end of 2022 by me, Sarah 👋
what started as a Christmas project, became a saviour during a time of immense grief, and since then has continued to thrive. we have recently expanded from local markets to our online store, gifting books to readers across the country.
we are a small Australian business based on Bunurong Country on the Mornington Peninsula just outside of Naarm / Melbourne and currently operate out of our beautiful backyard studio.
Sarah (she/her) is an avid reader who loves sharing book recommendations and helping other readers find their next perfect match 💘
our 'why'
-
encourage people to read more
books are magic. they bring us joy, help us to heal, grow and feel connected. they can take us on a journey of personal discovery, expand our thinking and create empathy and understanding towards others. books can even be a form of therapy!
yes, our devices are fun but we reckon the world would be a better place if everyone dedicated some time to reading (or listening to) a book at least once a day.
there are so many benefits to reading but we won't list them all... we'd rather you have more time to read your books! -
step outside of your comfort zone
we're all guilty of judging a book by its cover, which is why we think the 'blind date with a book' concept is great. i mean, who doesn't enjoy a lucky dip? and bonus - you might pick up something you wouldn't normally read and love it!
there are so many amazing books and incredible authors across the world and we want to help them to share their stories.
we are committed to selecting books from a diverse range of authors who write on various topics. diversity is important to us and plays a large role in the books we select. -
sustainability and recycling
our aim is to reduce the amount of books going into landfill.
op shops and secondhand stores are full of amazing books just waiting to be read again but the longer they sit there, the more their condition deteriorates and reduces the chances of them finding a new bookshelf.
we love giving books the second chance they deserve and we want to normalise preloved gifting and challenge the perceptions associated with it. we personally love the idea of secondhand gifts (especially books!) and hope others will embrace it too.
